As the competition becomes fiercer for the few jobs available your resume becomes more important than ever. Here are a few things to keep in mind when creating the perfect resume to help give you the upper hand in your next job interview.

First of all you may not even be invited in to meet for an interview until your resume is looked at. Therefore it’s important that you view your resume from a first impression point of view. This means crafting a resume that gives a positive overview of you in the fewest number of words as possible.

It’s important that you don’t assume anything when it comes to your resume. You want to be very comprehensive and include your name, age, address, contact number, email, and Social Security number.

If you have an online website or blog page you will want to put that URL so people can read about you online as well. These are all things that will make it easy for an employer to contact you and set up an interview.

Your career objectives should accurately describe the reason why you are applying for the job that is listed. You must have a very pointed reason describing what your career goal is.

You should include all of your skills, knowledge, education or special degrees you have received, and a list of all of your accomplishments. This is all designed to highlight the qualities you offer and the benefits you could bring to the company you are submitting your resume to.

To show that you are well-rounded individual you should also include information about your family, hobbies, things you enjoy for recreation and so on.

Again do all this in the fewest number words possible. Review it several times and make adjustments. You have now created perfect resume for your next potential job interview.

One important thing to keep in mind in a bad economy is you must work harder than ever to keep the job you currently have. As companies struggle to maintain a profit they begin to look at areas where they can cut.

For this reason it is important that you make yourself more important to the company than ever before. This will help you increase the odds you survive any cutbacks and keep the job you currently have.

First of all you should always try to work a little harder than the other employees are. This work ethic will not go unnoticed by your boss and could be the difference in keeping your job or not.

You should also try and increase your productivity. By performing at a higher level you are not only working harder but you are accomplishing more too.

Consider if you are truly happy in the job you currently have. It’s much easier to find a new job at a time when you do not need one that it is to be under the gun when you’re unemployed.

This might be an opportunity to get into something that appeals to you which will allow you to work harder at it. Many people are stuck in a rut in their job and it’s better to make the change now than it is to have to deal with that later.

Be flexible in your salary as well. If you’re asked to take a pay cut consider whether potentially being unemployed is worth the risk of not cutting back if the company asked you to do that.

One positive thing about a bad economy is it forces people who are currently unhappy with their present career to get out and make some changes. Here are a few short tips you can use when looking for a job from a career change point of view.

1. Expect to put in a great amount of time. You will quickly realize that the competition is fierce out there. Changing careers puts you in competition with people who might presently have experience on the resume.

This doesn’t mean however that a career change is not possible even in a bad economy. As a matter of fact many companies are looking for fresh faces and fresh ideas.

Your ability to seek these companies out and let them know about you often will come down to treating every day as though it is a full time job.

2. Focus on what you like about your current career. Many people are looking for a career change because they’re unhappy with their employer.

However there may be things you like about your current career that you could take with you to your new one. Make a list of those and use them as a starting point when finding places to work in your new career.

3. Take your skills with you. Depending on how long you have worked at your present job chances are this career has helped you develop many useful skills. Often these skills can be used interchangeably from one career to the next.

4. Network with people you know. Use your current list of contacts to introduce yoursel to potential new employers in the career you want to target.

Hopefully these four career change tips will help you prepare for a new job in an exciting new career.
